Hackettstown Regional Medical Center proudly offers the “Better Breathers Club” – a support group for patients with lung disease and their family members. This successful support group has been offered at HRMC for more than 8 years and an average of 20 people attend each session.
Monthly lectures are given by physicians and other medical specialists from the hospital and community. Attendees share tips and experiences that can be extremely helpful to those who may have previously felt as though they were alone in dealing with the challenges of difficult breathing. The “Better Breathers Club” enables patients to be proactive and more in charge of their own health. As one member states, “It’s much more than just your typical support group! I’ve made many close relationships in this group – they’re like my family.”
Many members of the “Better Breathers Club” also participate or have participated in HRMC’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and maintenance programs. The “Better Breathers Club”, pulmonary rehabilitation, and all pulmonary maintenance programs are run under the direction of Cardiopulmonary and Sleep Disorders Center Manager, Andre Sirgo, BSN, RRT.
