Our lobbyist provided details related to the new telehealth law signed by Governor Chris Christie on July 21. NJSRC government affairs member Joseph Goss, met with Senator Joseph Vitale’s staff during the process to discuss services respiratory therapists can provide to patients via telehealth and telemedicine. Shortly afterwards, a bill revision specifically included respiratory therapists.
One provision is that “Professional licensing and certification boards will be required to adopt rules and regulations which will be applicable to the health care providers under their respective jurisdictions.” The respiratory care licensing board has yet to discuss or promulgate regulations.
Another important provision is that the law requires “each telemedicine or telehealth organization operating in the State to annually register with the Department of Health and submit an annual report to the Department of Health in a manner as determined by the commissioner.” The Department of Health has also not published any regulations related to telehealth.
Keep watching our website as regulations are promulgated by the respiratory care board and department of health.
