Bergen Community College celebrated with a “service learning” activity in the Student Center on the main campus. The senior class of twenty-one students participated in activities to promote lung health and awareness to the local college community of faculty and students.
The Respiratory Club President Mauricio Vega organized the class into three groups of students who then rotated throughout the day to provide PFT’s with the computer operated KOKO machines, check pulse oximetry, perform peak flow measurements and hand out literature from the AARC on lung health, smoking cessation, allergies and asthma and COPD. The students all enjoyed themselves and they all like the active participation and active learning with other students and faculty on campus. The day ended with a pizza party provided by the faculty of the program for both freshmen and senior classes to attend.
