John Rutkowski, MBA, MPA, RRT, FACHE, FAARC
This was the 28th annual meeting and our aim was to hone our survival skills as a profession. Over 60 respiratory care managers and educators were in attendance along with 9 sponsoring companies that displayed their equipment and related services. Besides the NJ and NY state society presidents, immediate past-president of the AARC, George Gaebler, CoARC Executive Director, Tom Smalling, and Professor Emeritus, Craig Scanlan, were in attendance sharing their knowledge and perspectives. The annual managers / educators conference sponsored by the NJSRC and NYSSRC, is an important gathering because it provides key insight to the movers and shakers in the profession regarding changes that are taking place to shape our profession.
This annual conference was first conceived by Patty Hyland and Ken Wyka as a way of bringing the two societies closer together in terms of professional development and personal growth in the field. The location of the meeting has been in the serene surroundings of the Catskill Mountains and the Winter Clove Inn has provided us with remarkable hospitality where RTs can share their experiences and knowledge plus relax and manage stress in a peaceful setting.
