The State Board of Respiratory Care was created by the provisions of the Respiratory Care Practitioner Act of 1991. This board licenses and regulates respiratory therapists in New Jersey.
Respiratory care is the health specialty involving the treatment, disease management, control, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiac and pulmonary system. Respiratory care practitioners administer oxygen and other medical gases to patients and perform treatments and tests under the supervision of physicians.

The application for New Jersey licensure can be obtained on the licensing board
website.
The application includes instructions and a checklist to follow as you complete it. Be sure to review all fees associated with licensure, including any prorated fee based on the application year.
If renewing after this date, a $100.00 late fee is applied. After April 30, 2026, you will not be able to renew online and must contact the licensing board or committee for reinstatement procedures and associated fees.
